Temporary disabling new registrations

Temporary not accepting new registrations due to overwhelming number of spammers using bots (deduced by eterna).

Thanks for members who reported the spams and apparently my ban IP strategy is unable to cope up with the surge of 20-30 registrations of spammer bots using proxy IP to re-register many times.

Any ideas how to cope with this? I am thinking of using manual authorization to verify that the new member's ip is from Singapore.

I think server was slowed down due to the spammer bots trying to get in repeatedly since last night. So I have also temporary only allowed registered members to view forums as well as disabling new registrations.

What about putting one of those systems where you have to key in a verification code in a picture to register?

That usually works...

Yeah, now bots are very smart and able to get through that...

Ok, new registration has been enabled but they all have to be manually authenticated by either me or Takahan before they are allowed to post anywhere.

I'd also changed the verification methods.
