Okay i got my lazy ass to scan in sketches ive done today in a few boring lectures and when friends are playing pool..:smilieHappy:

(Note: Thesee are just abstract shapes that ive seen around me today and are added onto each other so i have no clue what im drawing til i see something sooooo if the anatomy is wrong dont blame meeee :cry:

Oh the Bone head is done in the lecturess so its sucky looking as its a kind of a warmup xD First drawing of the day >_>

Hmm these are inspired by Puddnhead's works after looking at his works and sketchbook xD)

I like your shading! And the way you integrate the different stuff together; it looks, so, like, naturally joined together. ^^

lin> Thanks xD still learning cross hatching :smilieBlush:

hmm created new brush and playing with colors and image popped out... head is off but then i dont careee i want to get some early sleep (im not sure if my shadows are cool enough though, didn't think of it when im just random painting colors...so i brought it to photoshop to put some blues into it >_> oh and my composition sucks too):smilieDumb:

Nice sketches! :) Though you might want to start from a neutal coloured canvas instead of white when you lay down the colours. A bright white canvas can be quite tricky to maintain a good colour balance when you throw on your first colours.

For details such as facial features/textures/lighting etc, you can leave them last. Concentrate on the whole picture rather than just one part.

As for colours, the colour wheel is your best friend. Use it to find which colours work with each other and which don't. Don't be afraid to just start out with only a few colours, you can always build on them later. Sometimes, the simpler colour scheme works out way better than one which consists of complex colours.

Very interesting colours and textures. It looks pretty good le. ^^
If you ask me, i think maybe that smear of green n brown over the jaw/chin area looks funny; the rest, esp the eyes, look v realistic le. Compared to first portrait(back at pg1) the nose is much improved too. ^^

Great job on the recent art pieces, your nose and mouth are much better, especially in the latest portrait painting.

For cross hatching, or even texturing/shading in pen, its actually better to use less lines. Unless you are aiming for some sort of harsh lighting condition, rarely do you use lots of lines. The trick about hatching is working with negative shapes to bring out the bumps/cracks etc, and not to give the viewer too much detail to digest.

You might also want to refrain for using too many colours as well as the use of black at the moment. You can try working with just 2 or 3 colours(with all the different shades) at most and also maximum 2 brush types. Right now there are just too many things going on in the picture, details+textues+contrast.

If you desaturate your picture, you'll see that almost all of the hair blends into the blacks of the background. Thats one of the reason why black is always used sparringly when painting, it tends to eat up colours that are too close to it.

In anycase, don't worry too much about detail and such, work on the whole picture. It might be slower, but it will defintely pay off. Keep going!

lin
17-11-08, 09:12 AM
Is it a quick-draw? The lines are great! Minimum lines for maximium expression! XD
The eyes, especially, are very nicely done. And I also like the soft, comfortable colours used. ^^

Nice paintings so far, the latest portrait looks good.:) If you pull off a greyscale paintover, I think it'll look pretty good.

nice one...just wondering wats the concept behind the picture?

lin
07-12-08, 09:33 PM
The fireglow and smoke in the background is really good; seems almost like real to me. The horse in the foreground though, looks a little too cartoonish for a war picture. >.<
I think is the mouthpart; maybe dun turn it up; need to reasearch horses' head a bit? XP

Mrv
08-12-08, 03:34 AM
Reminds of something vaugely of WWI, nice job on the pic. You might want to ease up on all the textures and filters though.

"new painting technique" - looks like chinese brush n watercolour mix... very nice effect... think will be nice to explore more. XD

"speedpaint 1" - the monster's texture is very nice! Sort of jelly-ish and translucent looking. The glowy eyes are nice too.

"speedpaint 2" - wa, cool! I like it a lot; everything - pose, composition, texture, shadows... just, cool. Very, very nice. Can stare long long time at it. 8D

oreodunk
16-12-08, 12:54 PM
lin> Thanks xD yes yes i was exploring chinese brush n watercolor mix..im still trying to figure out how to paint like those chinese novel kind of style D: now my speedpainting usually focus more on composition n story le cause i think thats what make a painting successful xD

THIS IS NIU haha was trying out new brush..i dunno how to spell the chinese word lol me is chinese basic student hahaha

no ref used so that niu may look very weird xD

lin
19-12-08, 03:03 AM
yep, it doesn't look quite defined ^^;
but certainly very "chinese brushy". Hmmm, maybe need to explore how to better define the overlapping regions...? ^^;;

hi oreo,
re: "overlapping" - I mean, the outlines are not so clear for areas eg, the head, where the black head is "overlapping" the black body. Both quite black, cannot see head clearly.

other pics >> wow, you've been working hard! ^^

The "bloody" bits are pretty well done; she looks cute/beautiful yet scary at the same time! ^^V

One thing, the peaceful pastel pinkish background doesn't seem to quite match the mood... perhaps have white or cooler colours might be better? ._.

oreodunk
02-01-09, 02:09 AM
lin> Thanks xD erm about the background i did it last minute..so if i were to give it another color i have to match what i have painted outside the lineart xD its actually pink, purple but i chose pink since the outfit is already abit purpleish and leaving the background white seems very striking to eye :D and erm i would use a warm color instead of a cool color since my underpainting is done in warm (im not sure if im correct on this or not, my color theory suck hehe)

winter_hyde
02-01-09, 03:47 PM
oh..one of my fave characters from darkstalkers!

the colour of her face is too alive though...kinda cut off the vampire feel..but still nicely done!
