View Full Version : zs`s sketchbook
Hi, went to a local competition today and was feeling quite inspired[and pretty sad as well that I couldn`t compete] after seeing all the fighters, so I sourced a bit for photographs and did a few sketches. I thought I`d post them up here a bit!
Hope I have the drive to continue these with a few more. I did a few doodles on the train back, but I don`t think those are quite up to standard, they`re drawn from memory and without references.
hmmmm
even though these sketches are perhaps just doodles but you might wanna look into the composition
everything feels very cramped now and all the figures are somehow cropped
not very easy on my eyes i feel
The poses look pretty good! Kicks are not easy to draw, i feel, cos hard to balance the weight of the figure. Your sketches do convey the "kick" message pretty well, esp the 2nd figure. ^^
BNN: Yes! Thanks for reminding me! It`s a really bad habit, that carries over from my sketchbook all the way onto my PC as well ;_;
I`ll keep that in mind when I go back to doing it again! Thanks!
lin: Thanks! I was sketching off photographs when I did it. Some of the sketches I unbalanced them on purpose to see how the pose works or to give them more weight, so this can be considered a lesson/experiment on balance for me!
Nice guestures, keep em coming! :)
Thanks, mrv!
Not too many new stuff today, I spent quite a bit of time playing games and just mucking around in general..
I tried to do some more gestures and stuff today, but couldn`t kind of catch it today, with the few references that I picked.
Instead, I found another photo, and found it had some potential for a pretty interesting encounter/image.

nice~ gesture drawings always look great especially when you've got a good grip of volume...which i think you do :D ya, like bnn said, composition plays a part as well...the 2nd pic works nicely because of the negative space above the leg, which leads the eye upwards...good stuff keep 'em coming :D
+1 to what annhell said about the volume thingy; do post more! ^^

Too little artwork...draw 100 more :D
Standard not good is okie...
Most importantly is to enjoy it.
Drawing is fun.
Heheheh, my sketchbook thread has been quiet for some time, due to my lack of posting! I generally don`t post without any new works, so that way, I have a way of motivating myself to do more works to post more!
Anyway, I took a break from doing those gestures and just did a little something silly, crazy and in every sense, something that only I would do!
This was more or less drawn off the reference, but the key thing I wanted off this study was improve my portraiture. All this while my portrait/facial drawing skills have been at the bottom of the bucket, so after running away from it or just avoiding it by drawing monsters, I decided to confront it and train up my facial drawing!
A cookie[I have a bottle full of it!] to the first guy who tells me where this was referenced off!
Anyway, this sums up everything I feel about enlisting on Saturday...
I`m going to miss civilian life
Face looks very real! Body is very solid too. ^^
I can't draw realistic stuff for nuts. >.<
Dunno where it's referenced from... no cookies for me. TT TT
